Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Have a look at the intake... it's painted the same colour.
Then again, these pictures of White 23 where taken in the USA after it was shipped from Germany. The tail is actually from another 162. I have pictures that were taken in Germany that show White 23 with a different Wk Nr.
I think I will be going with this scheme, maybe with a metal finish on the intake. I must admit however that I kind of like the official RLM spec camo, with alternating colours for the wings and control surfaces! But, I don't think that White 5 wore this official scheme so I will probably go for the former.
Thanks for helping out Skyhigh!

Have a look at the elevators in this pic:
This 162 is in a Canadian Museum, it looks unrestored even though it has no tactical markings:

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
i had been looking for that build for ages. It is an old build and was originally on Large Scale Planes website. It is awesome and there is much to learn from the step by step detail photos. To me it is the mother of all 163's. I strive to achieve such results. Truly magnificent!!!

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Small update...
First coat of primer applied
This put to light all the blemishes in the joint lines and panel lines which were corrected with superglue and sanded down.
I will leave it as it is for your scruteneering next Wednesday. Finally some hint of light at the end of the proverbial tunnel

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Found a little inspiration for you Wayne ... what I do not like are kill marks on a naked plane ... apart that it is quite a unique paint job ... I love it when someone takes a different approach ...

DEFINITELY it is, but as we discussed at Club yesterday, it could have done "BETTER" without just the kill markingsWayne wrote:that's one interesting paint job!

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
But the kill markings were there. That is a cutaway through the paint job instead of through the plane itself to expose the inside. Although i don't like it, it is a great novel idea. I would have liked to have seen the entire plane stripped of paint and not just part of it like that. But that is just my opinion.

The wood texture are decals by the German company Uschi in 1/32 ... I agree if doing a naked aircraft make it all [did not grab immediately the idea of a split model ...]

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
If it is a cutaway in the paint job, then yes the kill markings are in place
Marco & we all at Club on Wed, when we discussed this photo, didn't realise it was a cutaway in the paintjob we thought it was the paint job process hence we agreed that he shouldn't have included the kill markings
Either or, it is "thinking outside the box" & a big applause for the executioner whoever he might be for this novel idea

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
It is a cutaway of a paintjob. I had built that 162 in 72nd scale and it was flown by an ace, Demuth if not mistaken and he did have kill markings on the rudder, the werk nummer tallies.

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
RLM 76 applied to the undersides. The colour doesn't show that well in the photos:
I also noticed I have a significant problem with my workshop lighting. I could not really make out the difference between the light blue paint and the grey primer. I had to go outside to verify that the colour was ok . This has to be replaced!
I also replaced the air intake on the engine cowl with a scratch unit made from spent antiseptic cream tube material:
Here's one for Skyhigh:
I've tested the RLM 81 and 82 on a scrap piece of plastic. These are acrylic LifeColor paints.
82 is on the left and 81 is on the right. A panel painted in 76 is shown for comparison.
How do these look to you? I think they are a bit off but the colour chips I have are a bit old and could be misleading.

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Wayne do not fall in the trap of exact colour match, rest assured no two aircrfat will be the same ... just have a similar hue, mixtures of paint was all depends of with what was mixed and were it was made, the worst would be those made on the field not factory finish. Remember aswell these are late aircraft, the German economy was on dire straits, though they kept the standards typical German remember the raw materials were being drained out ... so parole povere take just a hue idea and not a perfect match!
