Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Great work Wayne, with the German pits, since they are so dark in colour (RLM 66) i normally dry brush them heavily sop that the detail sticks out otherwise they will look just like a dark hole and all the nice detail is lost. Just my 2c worth. Looking great my friend!!

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Time for an update.
Today I wanted to get the new resin seat and bulkhead painted and fitted to the cockpit. Easier said than done.
Once dry I test-fitted the seat to see how the painted assembly matched up with the rest of the pit. this is were I noticed the huge gap between the bulkhead and the gun barrel tunnel (green arrow). The barrel should go straight through the hole circled in red.
The old kit part did not have this hole and more importantly the bulkhead was stepped leaving no gap:
Some surgery was needed. I removed the gun barrel, cut off the tapered end and mated it to a piece of sprue:
The other side of the pit will have a similar treatment but will be slightly trickier given that the gun bay assembly will be visible through the hole in the bulkhead.
By the way Skyhigh, are these the right colours? The gun bay was painted in Lifecolor RLM02 and the gun in Modelmaster Gunmetal
More soon...

Kit part was better then the aftermarket you bought ?
So the sauce came more expensive then the fish

Kit part was inaccurate. The step did not exist in the aircraft but they added it to fit the gun bay.
In reality, the left hand 'wall' so to speak of the gun bay is actually the back of the cockpit bulkhead. I had 2 options at this point... scrap the idea of showing the gun bay and close it up (easy way out) or modify the parts such that they fit. I sanded the gun bay down considerably and managed to get a decent fit. It sill needs some tweaking but I'm confident I can make it work.
My only quip is that all this work will probabbly go unnoticed

Another option would be to completely scratch build the gun bay but that would be taking it a bit over the top...
Tempting tho

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Following your encouragement I'm seriously considering scratch building the gun bay. Aires make the MG-151 guns in 32nd scale so the rest should not be too difficult.
After looking at the reference pics (F**k Google ask Skyhigh) - it seems that there is no 'tunnel' for the gun barrel but the barrel itself passes through the cockpit and juts out of the fuselage a considerable amount. This will be a real test of the kit's accuracy, because I think the resin barrels will fall short, we'll see.
More soon.

Some more detail going in: the cannon mounting bracket and part of the spent-ammunition chute.
