Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Great detail Bri, ejja let's see the bird painted up ... with this you should combine a Kubelwagen, pilots had a habit to use these as their 'personal' cars ...

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
I don;t think that i will attempt that ventilation slit. I don't exactly know how it works. Was it just an open slit or did it have some sort of provision to close it if you wanted. I see it hard to imagine that it had to be left open all the time whatever the conditions.
As for the de-icing pipe, i will try looking for it on desert aircraft. I could not see it on any other F's except the one photo you posted. It is pretty obvious to see so i will try looking at some desert F's and see if i can spot it. If i can it is no problem to make.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Marco that is a die cast model. I think if i decide to do one, i will settle for a 35th scale, it is very close. It worked with the kettenkrad for the me262 and besides, the figures i have for the base are also 35th scale. I am trying to check out that de-icing pipe on desert F's.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
apart that it looks there's a small handle , for some reason it is a ventilation .... may be you can fix just a tiny acetate strip.......bcauchi wrote:I don;t think that i will attempt that ventilation slit. Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
It might have been a special aircraft used for high altitude. Even the other pics you posted don't show that tube. Also note that even the flare gun opening has been closed. Probably to avoid cold air from entering the cockpit. I think it was a one off case or a particular group of aircraft and will note make it on mine. It is not seen anywhere on the F's in the schiffer book and there are some pretty good closeups of the front part of the canopy.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
1/35 aware of, the best ones are dragon/belgo and tamiya you can find also the sand tyred type. But both type of tyres on kubelwagens were used in Afrika, just note tat No plate should be W not WH for Luftwaffe. It would be nice as inside would be panzergrey and outside painted desert, nice contrast with the bird ...
Monogram used to do a 1/32 one but probably on ebay you might manage to catch the vintage model and not up to those 2 standards ...
Maybe also an umbrella was a prominent feature in the desert

Hi guys, Hi Brian.
I really missed a very interesting conversation here... !!!!
Go Ahead!!! Although I wish for more details such as a DB exposed, I have to admit that your model comes up very impressive!!!

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Alex good to hear from you. I don;t have time to expose the engine and besides, i already did that for my G. The engines are very similar and i don;t like to repeat the same thing. I am trying for a kubel and will probably include one in the setup. Soon painting time. the wings are glued to the fuselage and i have started painting parts like flaps, undercarriage, wheel wells etc. Will try to get some pics up soon.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Marco I just realized through seeing photos that what you thought was a slit in the upper glass of the central part of the canopy is not a slit at all. It is a handle from where the glass could be slid open since in the F models, even the top glass was made in two parts and could be slid open. It is a clear handle probably also made from glass or some transparent material.

Well as I already told you before, a peace of clear acetate will do..

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Here is some progress work on the plane. The pit is nearly done. I just need to glue the gunsight in place and some levers. the wheel wells are done too. This time sand got in everywhere, can't get rid pf the damn stuff, no wonder they had canvas covers.
By the way, I ordered a kubelwagen, it is on the way. Looking forward to building it.
