This is looking really great, the rivets and the stressed skin looks so realistic, and it's really hard to beat the Silverleaf Rub N Buff for a natural metal look.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Hi everybody, here are some pics of the basic painting done now that i am confined to barracks due to illness. Marco, i have not yet decided on the yellow underside of the cowl. I am not 100% sure and i think that most of JG27's planes did not have a yellow cowl underside. Help me out with your info magic! I need to decide. Tell me what you would do if it were yours judging from pics of JG27 109's and also the photo of Red 4 which i sent you since that is the plane i will be making not the other.
The model is all painted and glossed. Next step is a wash and yuck!!...Sanding. But, it has to be done so be it! I hope you like how it turned out up to now, there is still a lot more to go.

Now that i am seeing the pics on the monitor i must tell you that the colours are lighter than they appear on your screen. At least on mine they are darker than the actual thing.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Brian I go for yellow.. ..nearly all JG27 109F's had the yellow cowling in the dessert...
If you look close , the tiger head is the same color of the under cowling, which is yellow ..compare with the reminder of the Lt. blue fuselage , that is not visible here.. bnut you can see it in your complete photo..........

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Looking really good Brian. It looks pretty dark on my monitor as well, glad you said it looks lighter in person as I'm sure the paint faded quickly under the desert sun and getting sandblasted from the prop. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Thanks for the comments guys. Marco, it will be yellow today, i prefer it to be that way, it makes the 109 even more colourful, this desert scheme is really nice and with the yellow cowl, jigi izjed tal-genn!! Marco can you suggest a set of decals i can buy to have the JG27 emblem and maybe with luck the red 4?

If you want I have two sets of the badge, just some retouch of the colors and I know that for you it's nothing...

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
That would be great. A big thank you, this is my last 109 and i don;t want to have to buy a whole decal sheet just for those insignia. What is wrong with them? is it the colour of the african face?

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
It looks olive skinned which is not wrong at all since it is North Africa being Arab but then you have tofollow how it was actually painted on the original, which from the pic it looks like it was painted brownishbcauchi wrote:That would be great. Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
I have to wait for Marco's feedback. I don;t know which is the decal and which is the reference. In the photo where the guy is retouching the emblem, the face is definitely brownish and on the decal sheet it also seems to be brownish but then on the JG27 emblem (i don't know if that is the decal i will be getting) the face is olive and not brownish. If that is the problem it is no big thing at all to fix.

Just hope you won't be attempting any "Artistic Impressions" since Marco is so FINICKY about it these days

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Ivan, i bought the kubel and am building it. You need to check my thread more often. I am taking your advice plus all the photos i saw to paint it grey on the inside and sand on the outside. I also have a mini dio planned which i hope you will like. Figures are already primed and ready for the oil paint. Will start on them soon. There has to be some licence somewhere but i think it will be acceptable in the end. Hope that i am sick long enough to finish this project. Never did so much modeling every single day before!!

The tiger needs a touch of black on the top and the bottom, you are right of course but only a minor adjustment.
