Marco that is not a tiger, tiger are found in asia not africa! That is a lioness as it has no spots or stripes [maybe a cheetah or leo if spots were seen]skyhigh wrote:No the tiger , but could be retouched ..bcauchi wrote:That would be great. A big thank you, this is my last 109 and i don;t want to have to buy a whole decal sheet just for those insignia. What is wrong with them? is it the colour of the african face?
NO NO your wrong Brian .........you still have to build an E...to say the last....

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Marco, both planes are the same, same camo everything. The only difference is the number and the kill markings on the tail. Otherwise both the same. So no big deal. In the colour artwork they show Red 1 without the blue demarcation on the sides but in the photos i have there is the demarcation which is slightly lower than that of Red 4 if you want to be finicky.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Marco, doing a red 4 so thinly outlined in black is not easy and now that i found a red 1 just as it should be then it has been decided.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Joking aside Ray, I value Marco's opinion, especially where Luftwaffe subjects are concerned so i will sit this out and wait to see what he has to say. I have stopped decalling short of a red 1 and kill markings to see what his opinion is. I will continue working on the kubel in the meantime and there are always the figures and ....... So much to be done.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
I ALSO VALUE Marco's opinion Bri, maybe MUCH more than I seem to, as I PICK on HIM LEFT, RIGHT & CENTRE (the ONLY reason is, because he STOPPED scale modelling & took up PHOTOGRAPHY & thus became a TRAITOR No1) but than he may not have the "feel" anymore of what weight certain "u iva mhux kemm taqta l'hawn u twahhal l'hemm" suggestions carry with thembcauchi wrote:Joking aside Ray, I value Marco's opinion, especially where Luftwaffe subjects are concerned so i will sit this out and wait to see what he has to say. Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Some progress pics. The plane is still missing its number, kill tally on the rudder and of course the squadron insignia on the nose. Once again for some strange reason, the colours are looking darker than they are and i have lightened them up too.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Marco that is only an artist's impression. You have the real photo and the scheme is just like red 4 only with red 1 and the tally on the tail. Even that is done wrongly in the profile. There is a kill marking denoting one of the two small ships the pilot sank. So don;t bother with that.
Check out the photos i sent you. the one with the pilot getting out of the cockpit is red 4 and the pilot is Paul Becker. The other two are red 1 and the pilot leading against it is Hans-Arnold 'Fiffi' Stahlschmidt. Note that the camo is very similar but the plane is different. Red 1 seems to have been kept much cleaner. There is less exhaust staining and even the sides are cleaner. The demarcation between the blue and brown is also slightly higher in red 4. You can judge by looking at the area of the yellow/white triangle on the side of the fuselage.
Over to you!

The car looks really good, nice and dirty and with some dings they would always get in use. I didn't realize the tread on their tires (at least for that vehicle) was the same as on their aircraft tires?

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Thanks everyone for the comments.
Brad, those are desert tyres. The kubelwagens were equipped with different kinds of tyres according to where they were used. The ones used in the desert had those type of tyres.
Marco, you will see it at the club when the whole project is done. I just posted some pics so that you can see what is going on. Hope you like the 109. I am very happy with it. The ship kill marking is hand painted on the rudder.

Re: Bf109 F4 Trop.
Superb work as always Brian!
Personally I would prefer the red on letter 1, a litlle bit weathered more, It looks so fresh compared to the rest of the colors on the plane
Dont forget to place the glass on the Vehicle's mirror.
I can't wait for the final act!!!
