Re: Two Me 163 komets
Too kind Wayne, its not that good but i'm satisfied with it. Trouble is that the aftermarket is not so accurate and i don;t feel like spending money just to have to alter and detail even that.

Re: Two Me 163 komets
The final part of the cockpit is now ready, the instrument panel. I used the kit panel, sanded off all the detail and cut out the blind flying panel. This is now made from aluminium sheeting. The other detail was all replaced since it was crude and inaccurate.
Also started some work on the seat. This is the me109F seat from quickboost and the resemblance to the 163 seat is remarkable as can be seen from the drawing. I started grinding off the cast seat belts. For one i don;t like them and have the beautiful Radu Brinzan belts to use and secondly i had to remove them because the 163 seat had an oval hole in the back of the seat. So that is a work in progress.

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Bri I'm speechless as I thought I was looking at the "painted" instrument panel like a before & after pic
However I'm sure you'll be just as close of the real thing like always

Wow, Brian!
Nice instrument panel! Can't wait to see it painted!
Pity you have to remove the resin seat belts! However, I'm sure added ones will look more realistic.

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Here is a short update. Did a lot of work which hardly shows. I stressed the skin on the metal fuselages. Although this small plane had very few panel lines, the fact that it is so tiny and so curved made the going difficult. Also upened up the panels where the detail is to show.

I was looking forward to some pics!
Brian we can kiss the rain good bye now and try to pray for strong wind and overcast! I know it's not the same but soon we'll have just sun and more sun and sweat and paint drying up faster the you can paint, sanded plastic particles sticking to your skin etc.....

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Here is the complete ammo bay. Made from sheet aluminium and plastic card. The shells are being produced from brass nails. Doing these really tries out your patience!

it was Ray's idea when i was doing the Me110, these are left over. Bought them from model shop, they are used for ship models.

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Sorry Noel, the ammo bay was the first opening on the spine of the plane just behind the cockpit.

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Some more detail added today. This is the rear open panel. There is a fuel tank the linkage to the rudder control and some electrical connections. Almost done. i gave up on the ammo for today, just wanted to see more progress made.
Everything is scratchbuilt, resin wire, plastic and aluminium.

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Some more progress pics. The first pic shows the underside of the plane minus its skid, a lot of detail to be put in here. That is why i have to close up the fuselage at this point. The rest are painting the pit and instrument panel. The cockpit was not easy to paint since it is quite enclosed and reaching in there to paint the details was not easy. Not as neat as i would have liked it to be but that is the best i can do. the instrument panel and pit now need a coating of matt varnish and then they can be glued in place and the fuselage halves glued together.
