Few layers of Klear on dials it looks nicer in real life rather than as a photo.

Ball bearing in place. stuck nice & strong. this should be enough to keep the plane on its front wheels.

Very good progress, which is being blotted by those poor seat belts IMHO

Re: F84G ''Thunderbirds'', 1:48 Tamiya
Adrian, you are doing brilliantly here. The painting is top notch. As for the seat belts, you are right, the decals are really nice. The only problem here is that they are so flat, they are part of the seat so what you could have done was to replicate them in any material you liked such as masking tape or lead foil or any other thing like brass and then you could have stuck the decals on them. That would have the same nice finish for the belts but in 3D. I suppose you can only go for aftermarket now or do your own if you have buckles for them.

Alclad test. left is dark aluminum, right is polished metal.
Main body parts together. looks like a space ship not an F84
I tried preserving the chrome plating but alot got damaged & there will be some filling, sanding fittings were good, but not perfect.

HELP WITH PMF & PANELS APPRECIATED
I need hearty help with the different panels and what shades to use.
Construction is ready. now its time for paint. i tried presevering the finish BUT alot got damaged. i was thinking of keeping some & painting the rest.
Now the tough part is, what shades to colour the aircraft panels with?? the F84's had many shades & it seems all aircraft were different.
I plan to paint it all with alclad polished metal, BUT i dont know which are the correct paints to use for the different panels. ive never used metal finishes before. how can i translate what i see.. into paint. say how would i know that panel ABC is to be painted XYZ?
any idea what metal paint shades to use & where to use them??
For now in my inventory i have:
Alclad- polished metal & dark aluminum
ModelMaster- gun metal, stainless steel, titanim.
ANY GOOD?

This is coming along nicely!
Not sure what gets into model companies to chrome plate everything, one time I had a 2-8-2 locomotive that was completely chromed???

the chrome plating is lovely. its probably better than any manual finish. but they seem to forget that the seams and gaps will show & most modellers choose to fill and sand these mistakes, hence damaging the chrome (which is very fragile)

Doing a great job Adrian, really nice build. I think that it will be your best and you have chosen a difficult finish!

Ladies & gentlemen... we have an F84!
After i tend to its seams & gaps i will have to sand off its chrome plating and undercoat it with gloss black..

What a boring monotone finish you got
You were not supposed to spray different shades of metal finishes? What happened? Was really looking forward for the Alclad finishes
