Post  Ray Sat May 01, 2010 8:52 am

This is what is on my bench at the moment. Pheonix Follies dating from 1987, it depicts a "Butterfly Girl" in ecstasy Embarassed pulling pollen from a water lily Laughing

Butterfly wings are photo etched as are the flower petals. She's holding a pollen sucking tube in her left hand which I'll add later from brass or copper as the moulded white metal tube kept bending during the cleaning process. Have also to fill some pitting in the metal especially on the face of leave, and on her lower back Razz

Since she is depicted as a girl, that is, with a rather under developed chest Embarassed (the rest of her body is not and looks glorious from all angles, believe me Shocked ) I have been contemplating of performing some surgery on that area a la a Dr.90210 and transform her into a well endowed Princess pale Twisted Evil

Have not decided on a particular butterfly scheme as yet, but what I know for sure is, that I won't paint the Princess' body in human flesh!!! I'll paint her body according to the butterfly scheme I choose, that is, just as the butterfly's body appears to be Laughing

    Enjoy and stay tuned Laughing

Brother may I remind you that we had an endomoligist in our core before he comitted himself in takling tracked caterpillars ... DOTTORE where are you????

From the shape of the wings it is very similar to Swollowtail Butterlies, the ones they used to call Tal-Buzbiez jew Tar-Regina ... a very beautiful speciment with a false eye and dramatic colours ... take note that top side of wings are different from the underside, like aircraft ... camo reason ...

The one in the biggest photo is the local species of swallowtail butterfly. When I was a little boy we used to call them Farfett tal-Lira. The caterpillar lives on fennel plants (buzbiez).

Butterfly Princess 80mm Empty For the purists...

Post  Dottore Sun May 02, 2010 10:19 am

I fealt called into the fray by our beloved president Mr Cocker....

Mela....first of all it is ENTOMOLGY (the study of insects)

Now down to this fine specimen...(the butterfly eh!)

I agree with el presidente on first glance it resembles the wing venature and outline of the Swallowtail butterfly ...commonly called that way due to the distinctive 'tail' on the rear aspect of the hind wing. It is obviously not a tail but a false antenna complete with a false 'eye' on the inside of the wing deviced in such a way that an attacking bird will be fooled to attacking that part of the butterfly (thinking it is the head) rather than the real head and does might the butterfly escape with some minor damage on the wings only?!

As others mentioned it is common on buzbiez but its common Maltese name is 'Farfett tal-Fejgel' translated literally as Fennel butterfly. Its latin name is Papilio machaon. It is the largest endemic butterfly on the island and one of the strongest fliers....

    (mill-archivi kienet din lol)

    Dottore

Whoever is painting this creature I can offer from some 25 books just on butterflies so just ask if u need some schemes....

Prosit Ray, that is a really wonderful figure. I would not touch it or modify it in any way. It is simply awesome, just perform your usual magic and give her a lovely coating of colour. Now this is something really unusual. Really looking forward to seeing the result on this.

This looks like a really cool subject, that's a really beautiful figure!

If you are still looking for color schemes, here is the Monarch, it's the State butterfly of Minnesota.

Here's a picture of the top side:

Here's a picture of the bottom time:

Not sure where this blue butterfly is from, but it's a beautiful color:

Thanks a lot Brad, I have been looking at hundreds of pics as well Twisted Evil

It is amazing how from ALL the pics I saw, I'M STILL UNSURE WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE Evil or Very Mad so I think I'll go a bit with the "Fantasy" scheme and cross bridges sort of Shocked also since I am not painting the human figure in flesh tones as I tend to paint her in appropriate or again cross breed markings Shocked

Marco TINDAHALX fuq l-scheme tal-FRIEFET ukoll, sahha hadd ma jista joqghod bik fuq l-schemes tal-ajruplani Germanizi Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil

Ok guys, here is a little update Laughing

I am sure that MANY would chime in and give their opinions IRRELEVANT of the Butterfly scheme per se Twisted Evil now that cup size have come in play cheers

As you can see, Dr.90210 job commenced I love you

Enjoying this one more then I thought I ever would Laughing

Before you start firing, THEY are still ROUGHLY SHAPED as I plan to get them done in 3 stages, that is the cup size/shape, then I would tackle the upper part and again shape and smooth in harmony with the lower part, and last but not least the notorious N lol!

At first i was against this Ray but now i see that it is looking good. You were right and i put forward my humble apologies. However, i think you have to watch out for the angle at which the fairy will be standing or rather flying to see how they have to be postitioned unless they are really silicone bags!
