i understand your logic. your line of work is based on rules and laws. this has inevitably conditioned your way of thinking and rightly so,but you cannot apply logical thinking to fantasy. you have not answered my question, have you ever come across any of the aforementioned creatures in flesh and blood i certainly hope not.

i would refer you to the description of j.m.barrie's TINKER BELL from the children and adult saga of PETER PAN and i suggest you read it. but i'm afraid you will also contradict him because this fairy glows in the dark and emits stardust.
this is fantasy where the only rules are an unrestricted immagination. modelling wise the rules are resticted to the paintwork and visual impact of the model. this is not a tiger or f-16 it is pure unadultered, rule less immagination

So as the wings are attached to a humanoid body, Ray has to check if they are major arteries or capilaries to get the exact match colour, [bluish grey hux Dot?] ... at least we now now that faires might had red blood Butterfly Princess 80mm - Page 8 Icon_twisted

I am curious to see what Ray has to say about this. He is keeping so conspicuously quiet. I suppose he is waiting to see what else we have to say about this and then pass his comment. Please Ray, say something!!

They are called veins but it is a misnomer cos they bare not veins as we know it merely a supporting framework for the delicate wings...

    or am i wrong ray

anyway as long as there is nothing personal differing opinions are mind stimulating. i had to delve deep into my mental archives (LOADS OF COBWEBS OVER THERE)to bring out my knowlege of fantasy creatures, so doc keep your arguments comming just as long as RAY DOES NOT OBJECT

Actually my SSM Brethren, I am REALLY ENJOYING this BATTLE of THE COUSINS from the BACK SEAT as Alex stated lol!

Eventually, EVERYONE has the right for his/her OPINION or rather how he/she ENVISIONS whatever it might be thru his mind. Some might see black while others might be seeing the same colour but for them it is white, and for others it might be grey. Some might even see a storm coming while others might be seeing the same storm but for them it appears as bright sunlight, and for others it might appear as a few drops of rain with a rainbow in the background.

As Alex wisely said, this differing of opinions was/is mind stimulating to say the least, because if anyone had to ask me if I knew what was I doing, I honestly say NO as I had no fixed pre plan drafted on a paper and neither do I have one to continue. All the "guidleines" were mixed and sorted in my mind, because, as anyone can attest to this, (Doc Roe especially since he's a MEDIC cat ) thoughts keep provoking thoughts and thus one keeps his mind fertile all the time without any fear of getting as dry as a funeral drum at an early and premature age pale

Re veins......depicted as they are (PE items and on the WIDE side of life) definitely, one cannot paint them BLACK, irrelevant of what anyone has to say about veins on BUTTERFLY WINGS Embarassed

I have to find the middle solution.....that is paint the shadow line black (just beneath the raised vein) and see how they would look. I am presuming they would not need any further highlights since they already have that effect but obviously I would stop and look how things would be only then Cool

Keep it up COUSINS cheers I'm sure there is more yet to come lol! lol! lol! lol! lol! lol! lol!

Very nice work Ray, looking great. Since I don't know anything about butterflies and such I cannot comment on such whether this should be that and this should be that. Anyway since this is fantasy, I assume you can do whatever you want or not??

p.s. - just one question, why the hell didn't you paint it digital camouflage scratch , surely you would not have sparked the battle of the cousins What a Face lol! lol! lol! lol!

Blue and green should never be seen unless with a colour in-between!

I prefer the topside of the wing, the colours are more contrasting and vibrant. I usually don't like to see green and blue together as stated in the above playful theory phrase and as you have applied on the underside.

AS for the veins, I personally think that they deserve some kind of attention as they are to prominent. Outlining would be an idea but not easy to execute......... dry-brush might be another option.

Did you just concentrate on the wings or the body is also partly ready? I really don't like that yellow colour!

You will probably do one fairy butterfly in your lifetime ...... so I would have gone for a more artistic configuration of colours and connected some images together as below

Gentleman we are forgetting one thing ....this is a fantasy figure and I think Ray did the right thing and let his immagination free ....forgot the concept of the so many real colouring of butterflies and his artististic mind
in nsa decidied on those delicous colours he has chosen...blending them in a very eyecatching way ....I might be wrong correct me Bro.....and for the issue about the veins I think you have to go about it the same way....important !!! this is a fantasy figure....
Im no figure expect but that's my humble opinion....

My idea would still be to take designs of real butterflies and make up your own FANTASY striking design.

In my opinion, Ray's design (although he might like it and after all it's his) is a simple transition of colours blending into each other.

To show off ability, I would have prefered to see a complex and colourful design that would have a "WOW" factor!

Correct me if I'm wrong. You chose to paint the underside in drab colour because in reality, if I'm not mistaken it was discussed earlier, the colourful, display is on the top wings......... mela muxx FANTASY din?

I'm sure Ray could have pulled out a design that would have made us all go "WOW"!

    Hey..... this is my opinion.

    I'll express my opinion...

When you look at the piece...and u see those prominent veins with coulours passing from one side of it, over it, and to the other side...it just doesnt seem right.
What Noel is trying to say I think is that the colour should be limited to the areas in between veins..whatever fantasy coours they might be!

    Over and out!

Since this is all fantasy and you have chosen really nice complimenting but darkish colours, how about enhancing the veins with a nice metallice huse like silver or gold ar bronze. Either dry brushing gently to enhance only the edges or just painting it in very delicately.

As many of you may already know, I resprayed the wings yesterday Sad pale

I could have done without it believe me Sad pale as I had to mask off her entire body Sad pale but I had no choice other than this Sad pale as I messed things up trying to paint/enhance the veins with the brush Sad pale she is too awkward to handle and paint on such a large area and with nowhere to rest my painting hand on, it just became a nightmare Sad pale so on Tue night I decided that first thing in the morning on Wed I would be masking off her assets for a respray Sad pale

It is not that I jumped with joy that I had to do it, (I HAD TO MISS CLUB Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad ) but I just rolled my sleeves and did it since there was no other way out Sad pale but at the end (I started masking at 09.00 and was taking off the masking round 20.00) it was a rewarding spraying session after all with no spray seeping thru the area around her hair (my biggest nithmare since I had to be extra careful of the loose strands of hair, but Duro is a blessing for staying springy but hard Laughing Twisted Evil Laughing thanks to Doc Roe Laughing Twisted Evil Laughing as he gave me the Duro stick I'm still using quite a while ago & I love you )......I know this souns weird lol!

Re veins.....they are staying as they are as I said earlier, my mortal fibres have been stretched to the limit and can't go any further since time is running out and would like Joseph to give her and the leaf & flower a coat of satin finish since he's the expert Laughing and since he's leaving on the 9th Sad

So I will be moving on to her body in the next days, which as you can see, has already commenced prior to yesterday's spraying marathon I love you

Leaf and flower are READY cheers

As usual.......ANYTHING you have to say, just FIRE ON Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

I'm off for a siesta coz I am night duty Sad pale

So see you later guys and dolls Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

    My true opinion.........

Ray, the wings are the grand display of the model. right? Mela, in my opinion, knowing you are a great craftsman, you should have really done a breathtaking display of colours by masking and so fourth. I'm sure you would have come up with a wonderful colourful pattern on the wings that would have made us go "WOW!"

What you did is a simple basic airbrush work of transitition of colours merging into each other and leaving the underside quite drab.

I'm not saying it's not nice but I would have expected more from you.

    Regards
    Noel
