this is how it was done....bergs were fashioned out of polystyrene...coated in plaster and then given various coats of white molten wax and enchanced with a light blue coloured molten wax...salt was added . When they dried the salt crystalized and it gave them that sugary look...
exact shapes made out of blue tac and smeared with Vaseline and sea scape worked around them....still a couple of coatings of varnish to go and of course trim the bergs a bit
now the final touches to the ship it self ...hopefully will bring it with me next Wednesday

Lou, i know you are not going to like my comment but now that i see the whole picture, there is something wrong with the icebergs and i think you are still in time to correct it. There is something not right and it is their shape. They are too rounded and regular. If you see some photos of small bergs, they have sharp edges and even straight faces and sides where they would have broken off the larger shape. I think that yours are too rounded. Just my opinion but i have been looking at them and saying that something is not quite right and i finally think i pinpointed it.

yes I see your point .....they are actually melted dying icebergs ...floating remmenants of ice bergs that's why:) ....that was my intention ....Icebergs would have been much higher and wud have taken the attention away from the model and I didn't want that. a ship of that small stature wouldn't go through the gauntlet of huge icebergs....I see your point mind you.... ...it's too late now Brian ....they are firmly fixed. and the seascape was worked around these floating pieces of ice...dying icebergs... melting icebergs...I don't know what to call them lol lol...I hope you can see my point.

Wig how can i not like your model. It is maybe the best so far although the POLA was a beautiful project and not to be discarded. I see your point about the bergs. I love the ship. It is beautiful and contrasts so well with the sea. Detail is exquisite and its colours are really eye catching. Well done as usual!

thanks Brian am still in a fix whether to take the warspite or the Pola with me to UK....the pola is smaller...so no hastle but the warspite is nice as well more colour, Pola is a bit drab apart from the front stripes.......so still to decide ...Rina will carry the Varyag for me and I will carry whichever I decide to take of the two ...

Being IPMS UK, if they still judge the way they used to, i would go for the Warspite! i am sure that a British subject will earn you more marks. Just my opinion. i like them both but the work you did on the Pola is amazing and the whole setting with the part of the port is really eye catching and makes the whole model even nicer. Bit of a difficult choice. Still i think i would go with the Warspite.
