Le Monstre

Year 1950. A truly odd-looking machine, with an 8-cylinder V engine, was created by Cadillac with a very clear objective: to reduce the weight of the car as much as possible and achieve the best aerodynamic efficiency to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Starting from a Cadillac Series 61 street car, what they achieved without any doubts was the closest thing to a spaceship...

The device, called "Le Monstre" (the monster), made the organization sweat, which spent several hours reviewing and validating the vehicle since it was not clear that it complied with the regulations, and once in the race, after some scares and problems, he managed to finish in 11th position.

This curious racing machine can be visited at the "Revs Institute", although you can also enjoy it on your shelf since Profil24 has recreated this Cadillac Cunningham Le Monstre in 1/24 scale, which you will surely like as much as us.

A few minutes ago we saw the boss snooping around the warehouse after receiving some supplies from Tameo. And when the boss is snooping around it's because he's up to something.

After searching through the shelves where hundreds of boxes of Tameo products rest, he headed to the AK and Number 5 paint displays, poked around a bit, and soon found himself sniffing around the 3D printer area. Clearly the boss is up to something.

After a little research we have found that the stock of the delicious 1/43 scale model of the Ferrari 375 Indianapolis Grant Piston Ring by Tameo, with which Johnnie Parsons tried to participate in the 1952 Indianapolis 500 miles, has magically been reduced by one unit...

Everyone pay attention, for sure the boss of SpotModel is going to surprise us with the assembly of a new model!!!

GT3 RS

The boss told us a while ago that he wanted a Porsche 992 GT3 RS, obviously there was a lot of laughter about it. A few weeks ago, the boss said that he had already saved up the money to buy his Porsche, so again we had a lot of fun and laughter. Today, we must say that it is better not to make fun of the boss...

We don't know if he has a magic ball with which he predicts the future, or if he knows some senior manager of the Japanese company, but the reality is that we are going to have a 1/24 scale model of the Porsche 992 GT3 RS from Tamiya. Applause and more applause, please, because once again the boss has left us speechless.

We are waiting for confirmation of delivery dates and the rest of the details of the scale model, so everyone stay tuned to the SpotModel website.

By the way, the boss says he's going to start saving in his piggy bank because the next one is going to be a...

M3 Marlboro

A few days ago, one of the latest Decalcas references arrived at SpotModel, a decoration for the BMW M3 and it surprised us because it comes with a "history" and this, although it is not the first time we have seen it, we love it.

We are going to allow ourselves to spoil it and give you a sneak peek of that story:

"It often happens that the process of creating a livery ends up being quite an adventure, and the livery of the BMW M3 is an example of this. When Nunu announced the release of the BMW M3 model years ago, the Decalcas team automatically thought of the livery of the car that raced on the Jarama circuit in 1987. We collected photographs and reference material, but we discovered a logo that nobody knew anything about and there was no way to decipher it. For several months we searched in archives, documentary collections, in the Jarama photographic archive, and we even spoke to Luis Pérez Sala (the driver) himself, but nobody could remember who the sponsor was, nor could we find any photographs that gave any information.

Two years later, we discovered a fantastic picture where the mysterious logo could be seen very clearly. Great!!! But... in the new photograph, with more definition, we could guess that there was another logo on the rear wings of the car, and the only thing that could be seen was a "blur" [...] Again, we halted the project because our love for perfection in the designs and for the faithful representation of the actual vehicle didn't allow us to release the product knowing that it was not complete..."

Do you want to know how the story ends? Well, it clearly had a happy ending, but it also required a lot of work and years of research. All so that you, dear scale modeler, can recreate this beautiful BMW that is now available at SpotModel. No doubt it was absolutely worth it!

Alpine A110 2018

In case anyone hasn't heard yet, SpotModel is celebrating its 20th anniversary, which is a long time coming. Many models, many paints, many decals and photo-etched parts have passed through our hands in this time, and we have made great friends with whom we have shared good times, beers and... we have even talked about scale models with them!

In these conversations with SpotModel's friends, interesting topics, big doubts, and good suggestions always come up. In one of the last ones we were talking about the future of scale modeling and new technologies. You never know where the future will go, but what we do have very clear is that as scale modelers we want to be up to date, and we as SpotModel want to be with you. So as a result of that conversation we have started to prepare a step further towards the future, and it is called 2018 Alpine A110.

With the help of 3DVM as a designer, we are preparing the Alpine A110 in 1/24 scale, made entirely in 3D printing, with its decals and vacuum formed parts, so that all of you who do not have access to these type of printers, or who simply like to spend your time building models rather than fighting with technology, can dare to build a model made with the latest digital advances. We are working on the final adjustments, so stay tuned because this beauty may very soon be on your assembly table.

It's a small step forward but it's not the last: at SpotModel we are preparing more surprises to celebrate our 20th birthday.

The Lotus Ford Type 72D is a black beauty, with tight curves, bold angles, perfect proportions, a hair-raising sound and a glorious smell. Her low centre of gravity and the skills of Emerson Fittipaldi at the wheel and Colin Chapman as team engineer and boss, took the Lotus 72D to the top of the charts in the 1972 and 1973 seasons.

All of us who love this machine, including ourselves, are celebrating because Tameo is (finally!!!!!!) going to reproduce in 1/43 scale the Lotus Ford type 72D in the winning configuration at the 1972 Monza Grand Prix, where the mechanics juggled to fix the puddle of gasoline that was in the passenger compartment minutes before the start of the race. That was pure Formula 1.

R5 Turbo Rally

Here is a new scoop from SpotModel: none other than the Tamiya Renault R5 Turbo scale model, and in this case not the street version but the rally version with the Monte Carlo Rally livery and the great Ragnotti at the wheel.

A few weeks ago the guys at Komakai released their Fast Guide on this car, as if they saw in some magic crystal ball that Tamiya was preparing the reedition. Total witchcraft...

As you all know, this is an "old pal" of all our shelves, except that as a "bonus prize" every reedition has some fresh and recently printed decals. Also, we're sure that some manufacturer will be encouraged to prepare improvements for this kit... maybe the rims, or the front spoiler, or any detail-up set for the interior? We are anxious and impatient until the beginning of February when the model arrives at the SpotModel warehouse, although you can already preorder yours.

Watch out, SpotModel is coming with the turbo blowing to the max!!

Clogging

Since we carried out the last extension of the already spacious SpotModel warehouse, we have had a problem: the road that leads to our facilities is clogged daily with the hundreds and hundreds of trucks that bring us products...

This is because thanks to our warehouse management system, we are able to receive and store at top speed; in fact, at such incredible speed that logistics companies cannot keep up with bringing us more and more models and end up saturating the city's traffic.

Among all this material, the first truck with Hasegawa scale models has already arrived (there are still two more trucks to go), a truck from Revell, another one from Fujimi, one from Profil, one from Model Factory Hiro and a while ago two trucks arrived with the new Opel Ascona by Belkits. From the window we can see a truck full of SK Decals decals; slowly approaching we can also see the truck with the new Solido models; further behind is a truck full of Zero Paints paints, and two trucks with the latest Decalcas references for the Nunu Porsche as well as the new screws for detailing, and behind them there are several Tamiya trucks...

After receiving everything and placing them on their corresponding shelves comes the part that we like the most: carefully preparing your SpotModel parcels with all the little things that you have ordered us.

Earlier this week there was a major technical failure at one of the country's main telecommunications providers, and it has meant a crazy day for us, with hardly any work to do, no emails to receive, no orders to ship, no new products to activate. A chaotic day that we were able to overcome with great doses of patience and, all must be said, spending a longer time than usual building models at home at night to get through it.

And while the technology came back to life again, the SpotModel universe has continued to grow with some interesting things such as the announcement of the 1/12 scale Lotus Ford 77 by MFH, a lot of detail-up parts by USCP for the Tamiya Alpine, the colour tones for the Porsche 992 GT3 RS by Number Five, the reprint of the M23 decal and the new screws by Decalcas, the arrival of the Tucker 48 by Red Wheel or the reeditions of several photo-etched parts by Studio27.

It seems that all the buttons, circuits, servers and electronic gadgets in the SpotModel universe are now working correctly, so... let's continue building models to infinity and beyond!!

Espace F1

We are very pleased to announce Crest Factor, a new French manufacturer that is making a strong impact with a 1/24 scale model of the Renault Espace F1 prototype minivan, a street car equipped with a V10 engine from Formula 1. Can you imagine going to the supermarket with something like this?

The Crest Factor model recreates the Renault prototype in exquisite detail, with a multitude of resin parts, an extensive set of photo-etched parts, rubber tyres, pre-cut acetate windows with painted frames, and even a set of decals printed by Cartograf that includes carbon patterns for the body panels and the spoiler. Who can resist?

Of course, this scale model will be produced in very limited batches, of 15 units each. The first batch will arrive in the next few weeks, and it will take a few months until the next batch is manufactured and delivered. What do we mean by this? Downpour

The entire SpotModel team would like to thank all of you who have been concerned about the complicated situation that the torrential rains have caused in our country these past few days.

Luckily, our SpotModel facilities are quite far from the worst affected areas, but the storms have devastated several regions of Spain. Near us, just about 40 kilometres away, there has also been destruction and flooding, but at least there are no human losses to be regretted in this area. These are difficult days that we must all overcome with effort and cooperation.

Logistics services have not been affected in international transit, and although there are problems with national shipments in some very specific areas, we can say that we are developing our usual activity without inconvenience.

Utopia

It is associated with fantasy, illusion, dream, invention, fable, idealization, imagination, fiction, hallucination, ideal, longing. It is defined as a "Plan, project, doctrine or ideal system that seems very difficult to achieve". Horacio Pagani, the master Argentine designer located in Italy, has managed to make Utopia a reality, and her name is Pagani Utopia Coupe. A super sports car with a longitudinally mounted mid-rear V12 engine with 864 hp, 1100Nm of torque, and rear-wheel drive. Totally fabulous.

This weekend we will be in Burgos, the beautiful Spanish city located in the northern part of the country, where we will enjoy a new edition of the "Tierras del Cid" Scale Modeling contest; on this occasion it will be held in the old train station that, without a doubt, will be full of models and good friends of SpotModel.

Is it Christmas already?

Noooooooo, it's not Christmas yet, but it's almost there, really really close. Yet here it feels like it's Christmas already... why? Maybe because the new Tamiya Porsche 992 GT3 RS scale model that we all want for Christmas has just arrived at SpotModel's warehouses? Ummmmmmmm.... Yep, that's probably it.

Our eyes lit up when we saw boxes, hundres of boxes and then a few more come through the door with this coveted beauty... we think we even heard heavenly himns too XD. The other Porsche that we are all waiting for is the 991 GT3 RSR, but it must have run out of gas in its powerful boxer engine because delivery has been delayed until later this month or early January.

And since we know that courier companies and even the postal service are overwhelmed this month, we have also enabled 24-hour delivery via UPS courier for EU countries, so that all of you who have been nice this year can get your Christmas presents on time.

CubiJig

We have received a communication from Decalcas that has left us absolutely perplexed and totally intrigued: they have developed a tool based on an advanced and modular system (which is also expandable), specially designed for civil vehicle scale modelers to use it throughout the assembly process of our scale models.

Haven't we ever wished we had three or four arms? Fifteen or more fingers so we could hold on here to glue there while this other piece is holding but can't touch this other one because it's still drying...? Decalcas assures us that they have the solution and they tell us that in the next few days they will send us the images, prices and all the information about both Car CubiJig and Bike CubiJig systems.

It sounds soooo good that here at SpotModel we are already making room for it on our assembly tables. Are you too?

Xmas 2024

In a few days we will celebrate Christmas: days for enjoying family and friends, for spending time at home and, of course, for building scale models!!!

These days we've been receiving some very tasty and interesting "Christmas treats"... Among them, the boss has asked Santa for a 1/12 scale Lancia Stratos by Italeri. Luckily, it's very close, just a few meters away, but all those who are a few thousand kilometers from the SpotModel warehouse remember that logistics companies are at full capacity at this time of year, so your gifts may take a few days longer than initially estimated.

The good news is that the SpotModel team doesn't take a rest, we are open for you every day of the year. Well, to be precise, this year we have been closed for twenty-seven seconds and three-tenths due to a "tyre change" on the web server, quite a record.

Goodbye 2024

There are only a few days left to say goodbye to this year, and with uncertainty, curiosity and mostly excitement, we stand on our tiptoes and look to the horizon to try to see what the coming year will bring, and above all, what scale modeling surprises it will bring us.

This year we have enjoyed a lot of new products, some of them really coveted and interesting, while we have also celebrated 20 years as a scale modeling shop, which is not a small thing to say :-)

And what can we tell you about 2025? Well, besides the CubiJig for 1/24 scale cars and 1/12 scale motorcycles that you can already reserve, various models by Norev and Solido, the Laverda 1000cc V6 by Brach Model, the interesting book about the Bugatti Type 35b by Komakai or the imminent reedition of the Audi Quattro by Tamiya, we can tell you that something called "ModelMotor" is being finalised... we will give you more details soon.

At SpotModel we are going to give the final touches to 2024, and soon it will be time to start sanding and filing 2025...

Almost without realizing it, we have changed our number pad from 24 to 25, and we have already done a few laps behind the wheel of our favorite racing machine. What do we expect for the 2025 season? Interesting question.

In these first laps, the undisputed leader has been the Porsche 992 GT3 RS by Tamiya, which we certainly think will be the star scale model of this season. Like us, many manufacturers think exactly the same and they are releasing countless references for this sweet treat. Scale Lab is finalising the set of photo-etched parts, SK Decals already has the carbon fiber patterns and two spectacular decorations, Decalcas will soon start to supply two rims models and LB Production stands out with nine decal references with the car logos in as many colours.

Catching the Tamiya model slipstream we have seen the CubiJig from Decalcas, which have made an incredible start. In the previous curve we have overtook two new references from Profil, some things from Reji and the last model from Tameo recently arrived at SpotModel. A little further ahead we can already sense the Nuremberg Toy Fair where Italeri and Revell should tell us some little secrets.

And what do we expect from SpotModel around the next corner? The ModelMotor 2025!!! But we'll talk about this next week.

We have been attending scale modeling contests and meetings all over Europe for many, many years, because we love seeing other modellers' models, because we meet very interesting people, because we share the hobby and because we build brutally good scale models that sweep in every competitions... XD

It is equally true that we have been thinking for quite some time about creating a nice event in Spain, just for civilian vehicle modelers, and, well, the time has come to take the step. So Spanish modelers, get ready because the first edition of ModelMotor is coming!!!!

It will be a closed-door meeting, meaning there won't be an audience, and you can bring whatever you want: assembled, unassembled, half-assembled models, to sell, to exchange, to give away, whatever you want as long as it's exclusively cars, motorcycles and trucks. You can also bring your mother-in-law, on the condition that she brings her own models...

There are no prizes, no talks and above all, it is not a contest: it is just a meeting of civil modelling enthusiasts to generate synergies, exchange knowledge and enjoy the hobby we love. Each participant will have a one-metre space on the table to place whatever they want and however they want: with or without a base, with or without a display case... In addition, no one will judge anything, no one will manipulate anything, and no one will touch your models: only you touch your things.

When are we going to hold it? Next March 29th in a hotel in Madrid. Do you like the idea?
