Ok ladies and gents, as promised to ALEX here are some update pics

Pics are not bad when compared to the CRAP of a month ago (even the last batch were of this same acceptable level) so they have to suffice

Red tunic and arms will recieve the LAST tweaking when (now that is a good question....WHEN) they'll be assembled in position, so that I would be seeing the RED as a whole

Gold/brass sword belt plate, buckle, and Claymore sword basket hilt and scabbard tip, are to be finished yet, with shadows and highlights. The pewter buttons also need a highlight and shadow

All piping from collar to torso, to cuffs IS READY

All white leather webbing IS READY

Water canteen is not ready yet with some more highlights and shadows obviously needed

Haversack is just a base colour on the lower part, as on the upper part it is finished together with the canteen leather sling

Sporran as you can see is NOT READY

Yes Alex I do LOVE Scottish subjects

One correction if I may on the RED. Other ranks wore RED like this Piper (it is picking up a bit more light then it is in reality) while officers including Colour Sergeants (like the one in my closet ) wore a brighter RED that is SCARLET which being brighter/lighter, thus faded accordingly

Having the kilt ready DID NOT help at all when I had to paint from the neck down as any slip of the paint brush (GOD PLEASE FORBID I BEG YOU) meant disaster still I'm not out of the RED/DANGER ZONE far from it actually, but it is nearing the UMBER ZONE

I would go a step or two further on the highlights/fading. I've stopped on the Vermillion (Maimeri) and I would highlight/fade the Vermillion with Naples Yellow (Maimeri) whereas on other reds I did before, I stopped on the Brilliant Red (Maimeri, equivalent more or less to Oils Scarlet Lake) and faded with Naples Yellow & Flesh Tint.

I solved mine the way I told you

What more can we expect from a great painter, tal pupi, such as you!

If I had to nitpick, I think the hole in his back should be filled. I find Tamiya putty very good. Let me you if you need some tips!

i must have had the wrong impression then. i always thought it was the material that was different and not the colour with the lower ranks having rough spun woolen cloth while the higher the rank the better the quality.
now i know never too late to learn especially over here.

Noel, you're a LEGEND

Alex what I'm sure about is that the Tartan's material differs for Officers and Other Ranks, that is finer material and thus a finer weave plus a slightly brighter hue of all the Tartan's colours for Officers and a less quality of ALL the above for the Other Ranks

So I think that you are right in your thoughts as I would assume (writing without veryfying) that the tunic's material was as you said

Thanks Brian yes I am quite pleased re Tartan, but am also putting a lot into the whole figure as well even though moving at a snail's pace

Hope I won't have to stick him on the base at the Airport or on board the plane

Maybe it is time to take a break from the forum till you get it done, it will give us poor bastards a chance to put in some posts and maybe gain some distance. You can;t hurry such a masterpiece.

Nope Brian still some way to go

He's just finished his water canteen and haversack moving on to his sporran in a few mins after he takes a coffee and cig break

I HONESTLY HOPE that "my version of brush modulation" is visible on the water canteen, haversack and sporran

PHOTOS DEFINETLY BETTER NOW BUT NOWHERE AS GOOD AS THE REAL THING IM SURE
