Lou this gonna be nice and really like the ambience, but IMO the main gate of the citadel needs to be rectified. Main gate facades are strait, and it shows in the modern fotos, in the BW foto they look strange but that is the side; if you open up in Photoshop and enlarge one notice it is a perspective trick and shadows ... hope I have not ruined anything and easily fixed but felt to tell you as this project is another masterpiece!

First of a big PROSIT! for such fine craftsmanship! You've still got it!
As for the structure of the main gate, I agree with Ivan. From where I'm sitting looking at the pictures I don't see any taper in the design. What I see is the upper protruding wall slightly wider than the lower one..... but I see no taper. What do the others think?

Good morning Louis,
I have to say that Ivan is right. As a matter of fact I wanted to meet you at the club, so that I can tell you personally. The lower part of the bastions are tapered, as any bastion should be. This was an architectural design to give more strength, and bear the overall weight of the bastions. But the gates ware always straight. If you see the gates of Fort St.Angelo and Fort Ricasoli, you will see that the bastions are tapered inwards, but the gates are straight.
It was basically the same all over Europe, especially places where the bastions date from the late middle ages to the Napoleonic period.

Louis..... in photographic pictures the perspective changes with the angle from point of view of which the photo is being taken, type of focal length measured in the lens, and type of lens.
I paint from photos, but an artist once told me not to replicate the vertical lines of the building as that in the photo. For example, a building will have the vertical lines slightly tilting/tapering, but these have to be 90 degrees when replicated on canvas or drawing paper. Why? Because it is a distortion from the focal length in the lens, coupled with type of lens (zoom or fixed). However, if I had to paint on sight, I would not see any taper vertical lines.
Furthermore, if one wishes to pronounce a stronger perspective and point of view..... than the artist can go for taper lines to extenuate depth and height...... but this is when you are doing 2D.
