p.s. - when it will be ready and at the expo, exihibit with the model a photocollection of the work in progress (Like Louis did, but chain the book so it won't be taken as a souvenier) to show that a lot of work goes into models!!

That some fantastic work, especially the hand hammered aluminum, pretty much the way the body guys do it.

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
We are pleased to announce yet another update. The external tanks have been completed. They are taken off various Revell/Hasegawa Bf109 kits, corrected and modified. They are now underslung the 110's wings. Not glued yet of course. The metal sling is made of beercan and the fuel lines are good old electrical cable.

Didn't know you drink beer
Joking apart, the springy metal of the beer cans (could be any beverage can mind you.....that was for the teetotalers ) is just right for that task as you could literally tighten it up without any fear of damaging it, unlike lead
Anyway, words do not suffice infront of this Scale Modelling Bonanza you are unfolding bit by bit Bri.....keep up the great work & would love to view these beauties in the flesh, one last time before you hide everything beneath the paint

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
Thanks guys i will try to bring it over next wednesday. There should be the bomb rack ready too. Then i will start on the other model the Dragon one, which i have put aside since that is basically just a build exercise. the kit is good and only needs minor additions but this requires major work. Then it is off to painting hopefully.

Prosit Brian, not only for the great work, which is truly incredible, but also for sharing your ideas.
The beer (or beverage) can metal is indeed a great idea as the metal is relatively thin and can be cut to shape as required with more tolerance.

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
Another update guys, the bomb rack is complete. I have modified the one i got in the Dragon model to fit the revell kit. It is very accurate in shape but required some modification and further detail. The modification included cutting an additional long opening through which one can see the 20mm cannon, and adding a fillet on the front end to contour it to fit the revell fuselage. I also put in some additional detail which would show through the openings, i.e. part of the breeches of the 20mm cannon. Of course, all additional detail is scratchbuilt.
By the way Marco you are slipping. I had two extra empty shell chute openings on the underside and although you saw the model more than once you failed to notice this. Shame on you ...... just joking!!

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
Very small update this time, the small rectangular opening on the nose of both aircraft. The first two photos shows the one on the Dragon model, still unpainted. The second set of photos shows the one on the revell nose, already having primer. Very happy with the finish on the revell model and it needed no refinishing. Right first time.

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
I think Joe it's the shape of the nose , because it looks to sloop down, or may be as you sad the angles of the photos...

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
Sorry but the canopy is only put in place and at the time it was not properly fitted in place. It makes it seem like the entire fuselage is lobsided. Also the photo is not taken directly from the front so there is also that slight angle which also gives that feeling.
I am not trying to say that you might not be right and that the model is perfect. Most of that fuselage including the nose is modified with HUGE amounts of milliput so there might be some inaccuracy here and there. You might also be right but overall it looks ok! I will try to bring it along next meeting and you can see for yourself. I hope to have the exhausts finished by then, they are the final major hurdle, i am scratchbuilding them entirely since none of the kit parts or those of the Dragon model could be used.

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
Excellent work on the bomb racks and the cooling scoop on the nose, unbelievable detail! Just amazing what you managed to get put in. Now I will have to go back and try and slap a couple plastic pieces together and slather it with Bondo and try it make it look like something!
I need to look through this site soon and see what's been going on, haven't been to any modeling sites much at all for a while now.

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
Another update. Here is some work done on the rear part of the canopy and also on the exhausts. The rear part of the canopy was modified to the correct shape, a couple of additions to the rear. I tried in vain to polish this as much as possible and avoid hot forming it but it is now a plug filled with milliput and waiting to be hot formed.
The rest of the photos are the exhausts so far. These were entirely scratchbuilt. The short pieces coming out of the engine were made from aluminium pipe squashed and cut to shape. The curved pipe was made of milliput and the rest is either resin parts (the yellowish parts) or white plastic pipe. They came together ok and i am pretty pleased with the result. Check out the last 3 photos where i have primed them. I now need to put in surface detail like weld seams, clips etc. This will take some more time.

Re: A tale of 2 Me110's
Great job on the canopy and the exhausts. Hopefully the hot forming of the canopy goes okay. The exhausts are really amazing so far, I know you've described them a couple times, but they are completely different looking than what I was thinking, really complicated shapes!
