Good afternoon SSM Brothers,
Like I feared, my wife managed to wreck my weekend, but with a bit of thinking and hard headed self, I managed to do the last piece - the aircraft hanger.
So be prepared Brothers, tomorrow morning I will post the pics.
Marco, I am already prepared for the Graf Zeppelin. Next Wednesday I will bring along the plans of the vessel.

Good morning SSM Brothers,
Like I said, here are the pics of the aircraft hanger.
First some work I carried out during the week - the aft radar base structure.
Another view of the radar base structure.
A elevation view of the aircraft hanger in progress.
Another view of the hanger.
A rear view.
An elevational veiw of the basic structure of the aircraft hanger - complete.
A rear view.
A side view.
A close up view - showing a part of the internal.
A top view - also revealing the internal of the hanger.
A view of the hanger in place.
A longitudinal elevaltion.
A close up view.
This week I shall be working on the radar/range finder domes and some other minor detail. Not much more to go now. During the exhibition, I shall be working on the details. That is the real hard work.
Don't be afraid Ray, I won't hurt you.

Hi Wayne,
One can expect that I am the punisher, but in fact it is I who got punished, as I had to go all through the night in order to keep my promise, and complete the hanger.
Anyway today is a new day and at the moment I am gathering the information I have to start working on the Radar/range finder domes.
By the way, thanks Wayne for the interesting pic of the Junkers 87. Next project of the Z-Plan is on it's way.

Good morning Marco,
I have the AJ-press book and all the Schiffer series books concerning the German navy. But the information is never enough, the more I have the better.

Good morning brothers
Today i am posting some pics showing 3-D details that are not normally found in books or in photographs.
The ventilator shafts sited just right aft of the Ships funnel. A very complicated array of louvres, which I will have to construct from Evergreen strips.
A view showing how the ships funnel was divided into independent air exhaust ducts, extracting foul gassses from each boiler and plant, situated in the machine hall.
A general view of the ship's aft section.
A very interesting photo, probably tken some time during 1946, showing the sister ship Gneisenau, settled on the sea bed, just outside Gotenhaven harbour; adjacent to the lighthouse, which can be seen at the rear. The photo clearly indicates that the persons walking by the scuttled ship, are walking on a thick layer of ice. One can also see the tattered remains of the camoflage nets and supports. The ship was scuttled by the Germans just right outside the harbour, in order to prevent entry into the harbour. Although the ships were considered to be sisters, there were quite a lot of dissimilarities. Basically the only things that were identical were the primary and secondary armament, the tower bridge, the funnel in general, the aft and the fore castle. Another thing to note is that the ship's aft section and forward section were literally cut off. This was done because the Germans were planning to rearm the Gneisenau with three turrets having twin 15" guns. So to do this, both the rear and forward section of the ship had to be cut off, redesigned and rebuilt. The ships original main armament were transfered to Norway and converted to Shore batteries. Today these batteries still exist and open to the public.

Good morning Guys,
Here aresome pics showing the progress carried out during the weekend.
Not much left to do now, that is for the basic structure. The hard work is just about to begin - The Famous Detailing.
Box like sturcture on the port side of the main superstructure.
Box like structure on the starboard side of the main superstructure.
Scribing out the sides of the ventilator ducts, located on either side of the hanger.
The four sides ready for assembly.
Front view of the ventilator ducts.
rear elevation of the ventilator ducts.
The vebtilator duct in place.
Another view of the same.
The observation room and open observation station, which shall be mounted on top of the range finder dome.
Another view of the same assembly.
A 50mm diameter piece of aluminium solid round bar, on the lathe, turned to 40mm diameter - The start of the range finder domes.
The range fimder dome on sited on the tower, with the observation posts mounted on top of it.
The range finder dome sited on the forecastle.
Another view of the observation post, with a couple of 1:72nd scale figures to show the extent of the figures in relation with the assembly.
The aft range finder dome. Note that this was actually made up of two domes, which in reality were of the contra-rotating type. that is, the FUMO Radar, which was mounted with the top dome, could in actual fact traverse to one direction, where as the range finder which was mounted in the lower dome, could traverse to the other side is required.
Another view of the aft domes.
This week I will start working on the detailing, a bit at a time of course. But the end result will be rewarding.

Z plan light Kruiser
Hi Paul, I wrote to You on about Page 7 I think and I have ordered the books You listed, this helps a bunch. I have been going slow pace on teh Cruiser Hull but as of late been getting a bit more done. I was curious on how you shaped teh Hull on your ship using cardboard, did you wet it and shape it to a mold form and glue it or glue and bend, anyway was just wondering. Im building my hull from galvanized sheet metal/ so as to make it usable for Remote control purposes, or mantle queen. as I am a fon of both Hobbys.
I dont Know if you have ever veiwed The Ship Model forum, which is a blog forum similar to this one, however there is a Gentleman(sorry for the cussword) building a 1/72 scale Bismark and is about halfway, or more done with her. she has a fiberglass hull and the superstructur/ turrets are made from brass solderd together, He is actually planking the deck with individual planks over a plywood subdeck. the pics are awsome. The Turret plans came rhom another project that I have seen online of a Paper model bismark in teh same scale.
I am fixing my digital camera so i can post some pics, however when i get to actually geting some progress done Ill start a ost so You dont have 500 pics or my ship blended with Yours LOL. I have been workins on a 1/32 scale model of a f 19 spectre stealth air craft of an on also like Your 1/35th turret. I wave a Freind in Florida that has Built a 1/32 scale mode Of the Mig 31 Firefox that is the most accurate Model of the Plane on the planet, he has worked on it for 6 to 8 years and it should be done ar real close. He planned to make it a resin kit That you could buy.
Sorry I got to rambling off their, i need to check back into a few of thos things, but stay focused on the Comerce Raiding, so I dont end up like Hitler with half a fleet on the slipways LOL. Ill post more soon/ Good Hunting all (Haratio.)

Good morning Horatio,
The prime material I use for the construction of my models is cardboard only. The most important thing is to use UHU Adhesive. Avoid using PVA adhesive of any other sort of wetting tactics to form the cardboard - it does not work. The best way to shape the hull of a ship is to use the good old method, the ship builders used to practise when building wooden ships. Cut out even strips of cardboard, apply the first layer - than, put on the second layer in cris-cross form. the hull of the Scharnhorst is made out of 6 and 8 layers of 1mm thick cardboard.
With regards to the 1:72 scale model of the Bismarck, yes I viewed his article on the Ship Model Forum; and I can tell you, he is doing a very great masterpiece. using mixed medium like fibreglass, wood, plywood, copper and brass, is very good. Through this method, you will gain valuable experience.
It would be great to see some pics of your Cruiser. Come on Horatio, fix up that camera of yours; I am quite sure that your article would be a treat.
Just to let you know, after the Scharnhorst, I shall start working the a 1:72 scale of the German Aircraft Carrier teh Graf Zeppelin. So get your cruiser ready for action, we have a lot of commerce raiding to do. Enemy Convoy Ahead.

What amazing work PAul, it is really surprising, what you can achieve with simple cardboard, truly eye opening. You are really progressing at a terrific rate and you amaze me with all the work and the sheer size of things, this is going to be the mother of all models. Looking forward to more progress.
