Good morning brothers,
Last weekend I workd on the nonslip flooring of the armoured observation/measuring post.
I tried to buy ready made non slip flooring sheets, but can only be found in 1:100 and 1:150 scale, so I decided to make my own. Hope you like it.

Paul,
After seeing this in the 'flesh' I can safely say that you are walking on the very fine line between genius and madness. Hats off for taking on this mid boggling endeavor and for its execution.
Loving every piece of it mate.

Thanks guys,
Dottore, thanks for your kind interest. As a matter of fact, non slip plates do exist, but in 1:100 scale and in diamond shape, which were used mainly by the US navy and the IJN navy.
The germans had a design of thier own for everything.
Now for some more progress pics. Not much but am posting them non the less.
This is not the first time that I am applying timber planking on my models, but it's the first time that am doing it the right way. That is how it really was.
The open type foretop observation platform, made from styrene sheets. The outer ring demarks the rain water gutter, while the inner ring is the socket in which the armoured observation post shall finally be fitted in.
Starting off with the ring planking. The width is double of that of a normal plank, but you will see why shortly.
The border planking around the inner ring, ready to accomodate the platformplanking.
The rear planking well under way. Note how the planking is fitted in place, especially at the rounded edges.
The planking on the left side.
The planking on the left side, is well under way.
Shall be able to post more pictures next Monday. I should have the planking ready and primed, and the parapet shin as well.
Cheers.

Paul You're doing a great job.
I can't let it go by even at the cost of sounding intrusive.
to my knowledge in deck planking planks are not cut off squarely when touching the border teak at an angled edge but mitred at an angle of 45 deg and then 1/3 of the plank width is squared off. Also they should have every fifth plank on the same axis (German Pattern).

Hi David,
You are right. If you see the planking at the left hand side, that is how it is. The plank is tapering down and then squared off. The rear part planking is squared off, as I am following the David McGregor scale plans; and that is how the plans shows it. I do not wish to muck about planking methods, if I don't have a true picture of what type was really used for small lengths.
The German pattern of having the fifth plank on the same axis is known to me as well, but the platform balcony is so small, that there is no way you can fit in five different aixis of planking. That method shall obviously be used for the main deck and for planking on the first deck.
The picture below shows exactly how I shall be planking the main deck.
Cheers.

How do you get to make the black line between the planks?
