Good morning my fellow SSM brothers,
last Sunday, I carried out some work on the fore top observation platform, and the admirals bridge.
Here goes.
Evergreen strips - 1.5mm x 0.28mm thick, required to obtain the "Tee" section for the parapet wall support structure.
Fitting in the first pieces.
Finalizing the starboard side.
A view from the front.
A view from the rear.
Next in line, the tee sections for the admiral's bridge.
The rear section is ready.
Job, over and done with.
The rivets required for the window frames, supplied by Tichy Train Group.
The rivets, only 0.8mm in diameter.
Marking out with a pencil.
The first Window frame.
Some very rare photos of the Scharnhorst's crew and officers, manning the balcony of the admiral's bridge, these shots were probably taken during 1942, during operation Cerberus, or the so called "Channel dash", when all officers and crew were called at battle stations and watch stations, to watch out for any enemy aircraft or enemy ships.
Note the sheer size of the signal lamp, the locking arms and locking screws for the wind breaker shields, the pillar stand for the binoculars, seen in the photo above, and other small communications equipment.
The signal flagman in operation at his station. Interesting is the fact that the flagman is not standing on the station platform but on the lower part of the protection railing. This may result from the fact to allow more visibility for the other ships to decode his signals better.
See you all tomorrow evening.
Shall be able to post more pictures by next Thursday.
