French rafales are in action over Libya, and have hit a libyan military vechile, confirmed, but did not specify what type.

As for war, it has been there from the dawn of men, and they have also shaped mankind in oneway or the other.

It is an unconfirmed if pilot is dead or who shot that MIG. For sure it was a REBEL MIG and according to them shot by the loyalists, probable as they were almost in Bengazhi perimeters. On the other side the coalition forces have already made their mark, the French Mirages have engaged a convoy of T72 tanks and also KO some others and a Palmiera artillery unit. Tornados and Typhoons have engaged other targets and seems USA used B2s. As usual main barage happened to be the elusive Tomahawks missiles. This evening more Typhoons and Tornados were on their way to Italy and from France, Qatar planes are on their way to Benghazi, the first Arab planes to be used in coalition.

Adrain I guess will be seeing much more planes over us ...

Not even MacGyver would have thought to use a computer desk chair with castors and reclining back as an anti aircraft platform!!

Actually they are sighting glasses - with incorporated range finder, targeting microchip etc..., but it seems that it has malfunctioned in this case!! They have long way to go before even thinking of moving foward towards tripoli
p.s. nice uniform, camoflaged fatigues and gim shoes!! True that necessity is the mother of all inventions, but this is taking it over! I cannot imagine the accuracy of such weapon, held in this position and in full auto fire! not even Rambo fought in such a position!

I feel very sorry for the leggendry aircrafts like the Su-24, Mig-23, Mirages and all the military that is a product of the glorious cold war era and is being destroyed during the bombardments over Libya. God forgive them because they don't know what they are doing !!!

What was glorious about the cold war ...it was just a waste of time and resources, as no fruit was gained from ... ah anzi the worst went to the CCCP!

as for what is happening in Libya I guess we know what they are doing, people are revolting turning into a Civil War to have a 40 year regime down and Ghaddafi and his hench men wants to hold on to their power ... no big mathematics mate! Let's face it it happened in France, England, it happened in Malta during the French occupation ... it just took ages to happen in the african continent!

So getting back to planes, someone over Times blog stated that it is not a MIG23 but an SU24 as tail is longer, you are the experts ...

Here is something from the hands of the rebels trying to fly this MIG21 another engine failure ... another loss of vintage stuff!

    Libya crisis Mig2110

On the other hand strange enough all loyalist front lines do not have adequate AA cover, they know the coalition is on them and their convoys, tanks and artillery units are just sittting ducks, I find this very strange ... maybe they are up to some surprises?

And here is the nightmare of many Maltese, the old but reliable Scud missle + MAZ launcher and probably why we are standing on the fence ... captured in Benghazi!

its quite hard to tell the difference from this photo. i think its a mig23 because if you look closely the elevons trailing edge extends further than the exhaust while the su24s elevons do not.

so do the rebels have pilots or did they just jump in the seat and pressed all the buttons until they got airborne? Suspect

The one in Ivan's photo is definitely a Mig21 (as he says) while to me, judging by the shape of the wings, the otherone is a Mig23. I must admit though that I wasn't sure given the poor quality of the photo, and I'm no expert on jets, especially post-korean war era russian birds.
