Good morning my fine SSM brothers

More progress pictures related to the construction of the bridge.

Here goes.

Starting off with the bridge entrance doors.


Adding on the door rim


Fitting in the detail.


The doors ready for finishing.


The ships's secstant together with the supporting pillar. This tiny thing is made up of 28 pieces.


Another shot of the above. The camera lens could not focus any better.


Applying the first finish coat.


The rear panel wall with it's finish coat.


The interior of the bridge, finished in eggshell white.


The medium used - Hempel Marine paint and heavily thinned.

Coming out really great Paul, I recommend to add a good wash to make detail stand out ... remember finally we gonna see all this from tiny windows, you might create a sense of illusion inside the same ideas used in boxed dioramas so we can see the details when all is closed ... useless doing all this scratchbuilt and then not seen or last in a white wash ... x'tahseb?

Hi Tancred,

Thanks for looking in. I quite agree with you regarding the washes. The eggshell shite is just the base coat, as the equipment is a mixture of grey, black, dark cream and brass.
Just for record's sake, I did the internal detailing for the simple reason, as not to leave it bare. But the photos, should give quite a good perspective of what is in the inside of the bridge.
You also have to bear in mind that, one can only view the bridge, from at least some 50 to 60cm away, so most of the details will be quite impossible to see.

Now just imagine what level of detailing is required for the whole ship.

Admire your stamina have to say such a never ending project...but its coming along a treat!

Paul, Massive Work as always

Ivan's sound advice re washes, should be followed religiously IMHO as you'll loose MOST of that Awesome Detailing when everything is in place, because as you stated, when viewing from a distance of 50-60cm, most of it will be lost (UNLESS AIDED by washes )

Having said all that, nothing will be taken away from this SHOW STOPPER don't worry

Thanks guys - your gentle comments are encouraging.

Now that the admiral's bridge is nearing it's finishing process, I am also tackling the works on the ship's armoured tower.

Here goes:

The armoured tower, literally soaked in grey primer paint.


Marking out the positions of the structural ribs.


The marking out is ready - sorry but some of the lines are just impossible for the picture to show.


The first two ribs in place.


The opposite ribs in place as well.

Great to see this detail Paul, the mother of all builds is coming along brilliantly. I have seen all these pieces separately but put together, they just leave one speechless.

Now that was a very good exhibition - the best in town.

I am today posting the progress work, carried out during the exhibition.

The work involved is related to the construction of the ship's foremast.

Here goes.

In three years time, I have to finish off the Scharnhorst - whether I like it or not.

As for the flower class corvettes - that is a very interesting subject. The French were building five flower class corvettes under licence. When France capitulated, these corvettes which were still being fitted out at the docks, were taken over by the German Kriegsmarine, and converted into harbour defence anti-aircraft corvettes.

I have the old matchbox kit, which I have to convert to the original Flower Class Version of 1939. Adding the guns is no problem at all. All in all - it would be a very interesting project.

Corvette PAC4 - Ready for handing over to the Harbour defence, which was entrusted to the Kriegsmarine Land Naval Artillery Branch.
